Quality Management System: Understanding the Organization

What defines and differentiates your organization? Is it a design house? Does it provide software development services? Does it manufacture goods? Does it excel in providing customer support services provider?

Each organization is unique, and it is their uniqueness that helps define them in the marketplace. Uniqueness can take many forms, for example, an organization that wants to be recognized at having the fastest turnaround times should reconsider incorporating a monthly pre-approval review process.  The organizations Quality Management System (QMS) architect should understand the organization’s unique abilities and develop a Quality Management System that plays to their strengths.

Sometimes, organizations will develop their Quality Management System based on something they saw at another company or the preferences of an individual. This is akin to trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. While that may work in the short-term, in the long run, the organization’s QMS should reflect the organization’s uniqueness. This will not only help the organization with its conformance needs but also help it remain competitive in the marketplace.
